For the next few days we are going to be in the mountains.
Our first stop is Asheville about a 2-hour drive from Charlotte. The highway
led us straight into the mountains.
We were running a risk again by choosing a hostel but this
one didn’t disappoint. It was simple and the TV didn’t work but most
importantly it was clean. Also it had really quirky light switches so what more
would you require in a hostel?

Asheville is a very alternative mountain city. There are lots
of shops selling incense and bright clothing. There are also lots of galleries,
cafes and pubs. It is actually a really nice city and we enjoyed exploring the
downtown area. Strangely enough where we were staying was right near 4 or 5
different churches of various denominations. Didn’t quite match with some of
the hookah shops and pubs nearby.

Lunch was delicious Japanese food. There was a great array
of vegetarian options, which worked well for us. It was presented a little
differently to how we were used to but taste of course is most important and it
was wonderful.
We found an advertisement for an arcade/fun place to go to.
So we entertained ourselves there that afternoon while it rained outside. There
were indoor go-karts, excellent mini golf and many great arcade games. Also in
case we forgot we were in the South there were Psalms and exerts from the bible
written on signs and the wall. It was a really fun family friendly place.

This evening we were a bit tired but we still needed to eat
so we headed to an Indian Street Food restaurant. The food was nice and décor
very unique. A nice place to finish our only day in Asheville.

ReplyDeleteYour road trip is going really well.
ReplyDeleteWere you affected at all by the plantation and the slave quarters?
The hostels seem to be quite quirky and unique.
Love Dad
Beth and H.Yip,
ReplyDeleteI have wrongly put my comment under 25th day blog. Pls go back one day and read them....Pa
Janet- the chocolate was delicious!! I love the chocolate shops in America.
ReplyDeleteDad-It is pretty confronting to see the difference between the rich plantation owners and the slaves. They had lots of information about how they lived.
Mum- I have more pictures of the light switches if you need inspiration
