Day Twenty Two: Savannah, Georgia

We had another lovely breakfast at our accommodation before we headed to Savannah. Both mornings we had been given a cooked breakfast and both times it was delicious. I am not always a fan of French toast but this orange flavoured, crispy, yummy French toast would make me get up early any day.

There are so many things I want to try and eat before leaving the USA. We had thought to head to a restaurant that specialises in Southern Food for lunch but we arrived in the small town too early for lunch so we headed on. However this choice of road meant we got to spend a lot of the journey on an interesting country highway rather than the main one.

In the late afternoon we arrived in Savannah. Our Inn for the night was absolutely beautiful. Also there were cats but that is only particularly important to Heng. They had afternoon appetisers ready and we were greeted by the friendly host and shown the Inn. It is called the Green Palm Inn for a reason. The whole house has that on going theme but somehow it avoided being tacky.

We went for a walk to the Riverfront. A stretch of shops and eateries that you reach by walking down stairs from the street. As the name suggests it is next to the river. There are some delicious old-fashioned lolly shops. The specialities include things with caramel, chocolate and pecans. All very nice and there were always too many to choose from. Taffy of course also makes an appearance in all sorts of flavours but I am not so keen on that chewy sweet.

Savannah is an absolutely charming town. The houses are all old and full of character. There are many restaurants with excellent food and lots of little shops and galleries. We chose the Pirates’ House to eat dinner at. It is one of the oldest buildings in Savannah and now has a Pirate themed restaurant. Pirates were found all over these parts years and years ago. The food was good for a theme restaurant. It was a nice place to have dinner.
