Day Seventeen: The Southernmost Point

The weather was looking bleak in the morning as we made our way to Key West. It was pouring with rain as we left Miami. However we left the clouds behind us and drove into some beautiful weather.

Leaving Miami

Entering the Keys

View of the Sea from the Hwy

The road we were travelling down is Hwy 1 and that is the only road to the Keys. There is water on either side as you drive from island to island. It is really is a beautiful drive.

I can see the sea and the sea sees me

We had lunch at a lovely café call Sundowners. Our table was right next to the water and we watched people paddle boarding and jet skiing. We also saw huge fish and a very brown pelican. The food was nice too. Fried sushi anyone?

Tropical Paradise

Big Fish

Friendly Pelican Enforcing the Rules

Fried Crab and Avocado Sushi

Our GPS did not lead us wrong and we found our way to Key West. We had got some information from an information centre on the way but most of that was coupon books and out of scale maps not that useful. Every day we are glad we have the GPS. We should give it a nickname.

Angelina’s Guesthouse is where we are staying and it is a lovely old building. The pool area is nice and the rooms are old style with modern bathrooms although Heng is sad there is no TV. The whole of Key West is filled with this style of old wooden building. I like them very much.

Our Room ("Just like at Grandma's," said the lady at the guesthouse)

In the evening we went for a walk down the main street Duval Street and eventually found our way to the Southernmost Point of the USA. It was a very hot humid evening so we were glad to get back to our cool hotel room and lie under the fan.
