Day Eleven: Last day in New York

Part of the morning was spent packing. It was easy to check out. One thing I have noticed in America is that check-out times are often quite late. We didn’t have to be out until 12noon. Although we did check out earlier than that as we had a lunch date at the other end of town. Thanks Morgan for the tip to go check out Shopsins. It is in the Essex Market in Downtown Manhattan. A very unusual small restaurant with just about the biggest menu ever. The food was yummy, filling and way more than we needed. Great place for breakfast or lunch if you don’t plan to eat again for several hours.

We finally made it to the Museum of the Moving Image. We have been trying to make it here for a couple of days but have always run out of time. It was worth going. There were some interesting exhibits about the sort of editing you see a lot of You Tube and the history of that. Then there was a lot of the behind-the-scenes movie making stuff.

Then it was to the airport to get our flight to Orlando. I have found Delta check-in to be really hassle free. They are quite strict about hand luggage though as the overhead storage always seems to be filled. The flight was uneventful and we arrived early. We are only staying in Orlando one night so we chose the Quality Inn near the airport. Although we had to wait a while they did come and collect us for free from the airport, which is great.

Overall staying New York has been fantastic. We would definitely look at staying in one of the neighbourhoods next time. I liked the atmosphere in those areas better than the Times Square area. There are still also quite a few things we didn't get to see like the Natural History Museum, Empire State Building and Brooklyn Bridge. However six days in the big city was probably enough for us for now.

Goodbye New York

For those of you that read this blog, Heng and I are off on a cruise tomorrow which will mean that we don’t have a good internet connection. So we are taking a 4 night break from blogging. We look forward to updating you on our cruising adventures upon our return to civilisation!!
